Evergen Infrastructure Corp has achieved a significant milestone by successfully injecting renewable natural gas (RNG) at its GrowTEC facility in Alberta, Canada, in late June. This achievement followed the completion of gas quality sampling and the connection of the facility to the utility grid. Currently, the facility is producing a daily volume of up to 180 gigajoules of RNG.
Phase 1 of the GrowTEC RNG expansion project has been completed, resulting in an annual production capacity of 80,000 gigajoules of RNG. Looking ahead, Evergen plans to further develop the facility by adding preprocessing and depackaging equipment. These additions will expand the range of organic waste that the facility can process and increase the RNG capacity. Part of this expansion includes the incorporation of a third anaerobic digestor.
Anticipated for later this year, Phase 2 of the project aims to raise the production capacity to 140,000 gigajoules of RNG annually. Feasibility work is currently underway, and a final investment decision is in the works.
Chase Edgelow, the chief executive officer of Evergen, expressed excitement over the GrowTEC achievement, viewing it as a significant step towards a decarbonized energy future. He emphasized the vital role of RNG in the global energy transition as the only carbon-negative energy source.
