The Anaerobic Digestion & Bioresources Association (ADBA) has unveiled the prominent line-up for its forthcoming ADBA Scottish Conference in September 2023. This distinguished event, set to take place at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, will delve deep into the critical subject of “Scotland’s Net Zero Ambition.” Emma Harper MSP, the Co-Convener of the Cross-Party Group on Rural Affairs from the Scottish National Party (SNP), is one of the notable speakers scheduled for this event.
She will be joined by Maurice Golden MSP, the Convener of the Cross-Party Group on Circular Economy in the Scottish Parliament, and Sarah Boyack MSP, the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Transport, and the Just Transition from the Scottish Labour Party. Maurice Golden MSP and Sarah Boyack MSP are slated to deliver the opening and closing keynote addresses, respectively.
Their insights promise to provide significant perspectives on Scotland’s journey towards a sustainable future. Chris Huhne, formerly the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and now the Chair of ADBA, will assume the role of conference chairperson, adding his wealth of experience to guide the discussions.
The overarching theme of the event, “Deep Dive into Scotland’s Net Zero Ambition,” will serve as a platform for in-depth exploration. It will shed light on the pivotal role that anaerobic digestion (AD) and biogas technologies can play in realizing Scotland’s de-carbonization goals across various sectors, including energy, transportation, agriculture, and the food and drink industry. Furthermore, the conference will emphasize the importance of nurturing a circular economy and achieving zero food waste in Scotland, a vision aligned with the broader sustainability agenda.
These discussions will be instrumental in charting a path toward a more environmentally conscious and economically viable future. One of the critical aspects to be addressed at the conference is the financing of the expansion of AD and biogas technologies within Scotland. This topic is particularly timely, as scaling up these technologies is essential to meet ambitious net-zero targets. As Maurice Golden MSP aptly puts it, “ADBA represents a sector which adds so much value to the global efforts to meet net-zero targets.”
He emphasizes the need for further deployment of AD and biogas to tackle the challenges ahead and seize the economic opportunities that this sector offers.
In conclusion, the ADBA Scottish Conference 2023 promises to be a pivotal gathering of thought leaders, policy-makers, and industry experts. It will provide a platform to discuss and strategize on how Scotland can continue its journey towards a sustainable, net-zero future. With a stellar line-up of speakers and a focus on critical issues, this event will contribute significantly to the broader global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
